Coimbatore deserves to see it clearly.
A super-speciality institute built around two senses. Cataract and refractive surgery, retina care, paediatric ENT and cochlear implants — delivered in day-care theatres by consultants who have done this for two decades.
Cashless · empanelled with
Cataract, retina, LASIK and ENT procedures completed across our theatres.
Of cataract patients discharged the same day — true day-care surgery.
Children screened through our school hearing & vision programme last year.
Years of continuous practice in Coimbatore, since our first Race Course clinic.
Average time from registration to the consultant's chair at our Peelamedu centre — measured every week, published every month.
Two senses, one unhurried standard of care.
DRISHTI began in 1998 as a two-room eye clinic on Race Course Road. We added ENT in 2006 because families kept asking the same thing — where do we take the child who cannot see the blackboard and cannot hear the teacher? Today three centres run the same protocols, the same equipment calibration schedule, and the same rule: no patient leaves without understanding what was found.
Consultant-led, always
Your surgeon does your surgery. No rotating registrar lists, no last-minute substitutions — if a change is unavoidable you are told before you enter the theatre.
Day-care by design
Phacoemulsification, grommets, septoplasty and most paediatric ENT lists are structured so you arrive in the morning and sleep at home the same night.
The camp comes first
112 free screening camps a year across Coimbatore district — Sulur, Pollachi, Annur, Karamadai. Surgery for those who need it is arranged under CMCHIS at no cost to the family.
Sub-speciality depth,
under one roof.
Fourteen clinics run on fixed days, so you are always seen by the person who does that operation every week — not by whoever happens to be free that morning.
A note on outcomes. Every procedure listed here carries its own risks and its own range of results, and nothing on this page is a promise of a particular result. What suits you depends on your scans, your measurements and your general health — please consult our doctors before deciding anything.

Pick a condition and drag the severity slider. The photograph changes the way the eye changes — because describing blurred vision to a family never quite lands the way showing it does.
Select a condition
A clear view
This is roughly what a healthy eye sees on a bright Coimbatore morning — sharp edges, honest colour, no haze around the light. Choose a condition on the left to watch that clarity change.
An illustration only — every eye is different and a simulation cannot diagnose anything. If any of this looks familiar, please come in for a proper examination.

Reading the matrix
Four intraocular lenses for cataract surgery, three laser procedures for spectacle removal. They are not competing products — they answer different questions, and a 68-year-old with a dense cataract and a 24-year-old software engineer in Peelamedu belong in completely different rows.
Vision range — how many distances the option covers without help. Distance only, or distance plus reading, or everything in between.
Night glare — halos and starbursts around headlights. More bars means more glare reported, which matters if you drive to Tiruppur at night.
Spectacle freedom — the realistic chance you stop reaching for glasses. Never a guarantee; reading glasses for fine print remain common.
Recovery — working days before most people return to a screen or a shop floor. Full visual settling takes longer in every case.
| Option | Vision range | Night glare | Spectacle freedom | Back to work | Cost per eye |

Prices are indicative package ranges at our Coimbatore centres and include the lens or laser, theatre, day-care stay and the first three follow-ups. Final cost depends on biometry, corneal scans and any co-existing condition. Cataract packages under CMCHIS and PM-JAY are available at no cost to eligible families — ask at the registration desk.

In at 7:30 am.
Home for dinner.
The whole cataract pathway, hour by hour, exactly as it runs on a Tuesday list at Race Course. No admission the night before, no attendant sleeping on a bench.
Work-up
Biometry, corneal topography, macular OCT and a physician fitness check. This is the visit where the lens is chosen — bring the person who will drive you home.
Registration
Fasting from midnight for anything except your regular tablets with a sip of water. Insurance pre-authorisation is usually cleared before you arrive.
Dilation bay
Drops every ten minutes for about an hour. Your eye is marked, the theatre list is confirmed, and the anaesthetist meets you in the bay.
Theatre
Phacoemulsification under topical anaesthesia — drops, not an injection, for most eyes. Typically twelve to eighteen minutes. You stay awake and hear everything.
Recovery & tea
Ninety minutes in the day-care lounge with observations, a light breakfast and the drop chart explained to whoever came with you.
Discharge
Home by lunch with a shield for sleeping. Review next morning, then at week one and week four. Most people read a phone comfortably by day three.
This is the usual pathway, not a fixed one. Dense cataracts, small pupils, previous eye surgery, diabetes or a co-existing retinal problem can all change the plan, the anaesthesia and the recovery time — sometimes an overnight stay is the safer call. Your consultant will tell you which parts of this timeline apply to your eye.
A child who cannot hear
is not a slow child.
Hearing loss caught at six weeks and hearing loss caught at six years lead to two very different childhoods. Our newborn screening runs on OAE and BERA, and our cochlear implant programme has a full speech-therapy wing attached — because the surgery is only the first third of the work.
Painless, done while the baby sleeps. We screen at our centres and at four partner maternity hospitals across Coimbatore.
Candidacy assessment, surgery, switch-on at three weeks, then a structured two-year auditory-verbal programme in Tamil and English.
The commonest reason a five-year-old stops responding at home. Grommet insertion is a twenty-minute day-care procedure under short general anaesthesia.
Our paediatric eye clinic runs alongside ENT on Saturdays, so one visit can cover both. Patching plans are reviewed monthly.
Four people who will
actually be in the room.
Between them, more than seventy years of practice in this district. Each runs a fixed clinic, so you can plan around them rather than the other way round.

We go out to the
district every week.
Screening, refraction and a spectacle prescription at no charge. Anyone found to need cataract surgery is brought to Coimbatore and operated under CMCHIS — transport included, family fed.
Panchayats, schools, mills and self-help groups can request a camp. We need about forty people and one covered room.
The rooms where
it all happens.
Three theatres, six diagnostic suites, one paediatric wing with a floor you are allowed to sit on. Photographed on ordinary working days.
Coimbatore has a diabetes problem. Your retina knows first.
Diabetic retinopathy is painless until it is not. If you have had diabetes for more than five years, an annual dilated retina check is the single most useful forty minutes you can spend on your eyes.

Package prices at our Coimbatore centres, all inclusive of theatre, day-care stay and the first three follow-ups. Nothing here is a hidden estimate that grows later.
Cashless and scheme cover. We are empanelled with the major insurers and with CMCHIS and Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY. Eligible cataract and paediatric ENT procedures are performed at no cost to the family under those schemes. Bring your card, an Aadhaar and one referral if you have it — our TPA desk handles the rest and pre-authorisation usually clears in a day.
Three centres,
one city.
Surgery runs at Race Course and Peelamedu. R.S. Puram is our consultation, diagnostics and paediatric centre — and the easiest one to park at.
Eye or ear emergency?
Chemical splash, sudden loss of vision, a curtain across your sight, an injury, or a foreign body in the ear or nose — our Race Course centre keeps an on-call consultant round the clock. Do not wait for the morning OPD.

Twenty minutes now.
Years of clarity after.
A full eye and hearing assessment at DRISHTI takes under an hour and costs ₹600. Book it for a parent this week — most people put it off until something is already wrong.
